How to Get the Owlbear Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3? Embarking on a dangerous journey in the magical world of Baldur’s Gate 3 comes with many challenges and friends to meet. Among these friends, one is special and stands out because it’s both fierce and very charming—the owlbear cub. While you explore the exciting story of this game, you might feel unsure about taking care of an owlbear cub since it seems difficult and takes a lot of time.
But the rewards of having this magical baby creature with you are really wonderful. Even though the idea of animals that are half-bear and half-owl might make you think of wild and basic instincts, the owlbear cub is different. It can be a great friend and surprise you in a good way. These creatures have a long history in a game called Dungeons & Dragons, where they were first seen in a book called Greyhawk. But in Baldur’s Gate 3, they are not scary at all.
You have the special chance to bring an owlbear cub into your group, even though it might seem unusual for them to be cuddly and strong at the same time. In this guide, we will show you how to do it step by step. It might not be easy, and it might take time and a little bravery, but the reward of having your very own owlbear cub will be worth it—something really special.

How to Get the Owlbear Cub
To add the owlbear cub to your camp, there are three different approaches you can take. The first step is to interact with the cub and allow it to smell your hands. This will establish a connection and make the owlbear cub comfortable with coming to your camp.
You can chose one of the three options below:
1. Denounce Chicken-Chasing:
- Return to Krolla and express your disapproval of Chicken-Chasing due to its cruelty.
- Politely decline to play the game.
- This ends the conversation, and you can talk to Krolla again to tell her the cub is coming with you.
2. Chicken-Chasing Game:
- Participate in a game of Chicken-Chasing.
- Play for 30 gold or wager 75 gold for a more confident play.
- Interact with the owlbear cub before the game:
- Pass an Animal Handling check to encourage it to run through posts.
- Persuade it to attack the goblins.
- During the game, chase the owlbear cub through the posts, taking care with any grease.
3. Deal with Goblins:
- Eliminate the goblins outside the camp to remove their influence.
- Ensure that no goblins are keeping the owlbear cub captive.
- Once the cub knows your scent and the goblins are gone, it will follow you.
4. Claiming the Cub:
- Speak to Krolla after completing any of the routes.
- Choose from various options to secure the owlbear cub:
- Persuade or Intimidate Krolla.
- Buy the cub for 500 gold.
- Use your Illithid wisdom (easiest).
5. Arrival at Your Camp:
- Regardless of the route taken, the owlbear cub will disappear and reappear in your camp after a few nights.
- If it doesn’t arrive immediately, continue progressing the story.
6. Interactions in Camp:
- After the cub joins your camp:
- You can interact with it every time you rest.
- Pet the cub and even talk to it if you can Speak With Animals.
- If Scratch is also in your camp, a cutscene allows you to pet both creatures simultaneously, earning you the “You Have Two Hands For A Reason” achievement.
Remember, whether you choose to denounce Chicken-Chasing, participate in the game, or eliminate goblins, the owlbear cub will eventually become a part of your camp and a delightful companion.
