Hey there my fellow Hunters! Have you been capturing a lot of monsters lately? If not, why aren’t you doing it? Capturing monsters can be even more beneficial than killing them. So that’s what I’ll be teaching you today, on how to capture monsters on Monster Hunter Rise!
In this article, I’ll cover up on the benefits of capturing monsters (and the downsides as well, we got to be realistic here), how to get the necessary items for capturing, and of course, how to capture them. So, let’s go!
Benefits and Downsides of capturing Monsters
Capturing monsters can grant you some great advantages as well!
First things first, capturing monsters is often much easier than killing them. It is also the fastest way, since you won’t have to attack the monster until it loses all hp. With higher defense monsters, this can work like a charm.
Also, you gain more items and resources by capturing them, while killing them straight up doesn’t grant you as much.
However, the downside of capturing monsters is that you’ll need some resources to do so. You’ll need to craft a lot of Traps and Tranq Bombs, in order to capture them, while if you chose the killing option, you won’t need these.
Oh yeah, also, there are monsters that just can’t be captured. A tip to know if they can be captured is through traps. If they get caught on a trap, they can be captured, otherwise, they can’t.
So really, which method you choose is totally up to you.
How to get the items you need for capturing
The needed items for capturing monsters are the Pitfall Trap or the Shock Trap and some Tranq Bombs.
Getting them is pretty easy. You can get them by simply buying them on the market or by crafting them.
If you don’t know yet how to craft, the easier way is by opening the start menu. By pressing +, a crafting list menu will pop up. You can craft there, or, if you’d like, you can go to your tent or to the camp to craft items as well.
The resources you’ll need to craft the items are:

- The Tranq Bomb is used to capture the monsters after they get caught in a trap.
- The Pitfall Trap is used to caught especially large monsters.
- The Shock Trap is used to immobilize the monster.
Observation: To capture a monster, you’ll need at least a type of trap and two or three Tranq Bombs. If not, you won’t be able to capture them.
How to capture Monsters
It is actually a pretty simple task:
- First, attack the monster until it gets weak.
- To know when they are about to die, notice if they start tumbling or appear tired. You can also simply look at their icon; if it starts to blink blue, it is time to capture it.
- After that, place one of the traps mentioned before on the ground and lure the monster to step on it.
- When they finally get caught, immediately throw two of three Tranq Bombs on them.
- After all that, congrats, you’ve successfully captured a monster!
