To explore these areas, players need a rebreather, a critical piece of equipment that allows them to breathe in hazardous environments. Rebreather Location
On the northern part of the map, there’s a small cave where you can find the Rebreather. To get to it, you’ll need to break down the boards on the sealed cliff-side entrance with a weapon. The entrance is located near the beach, so keep an eye out for it. If you happen to crash on the island’s northwest side, you’ll be able to spawn right next to the cave. However, be warned that the cave is home to some disfigured horrors, so you’ll need to be brave if you want to grab the Rebreather right away.
How to Get the Rebreather
Here’s a step-by-step guide how to get the Rebreather:
- Enter the cave, which is dark and difficult to navigate. You can use a flashlight to light your way or flares and a windproof lighter as an alternative.
- Be prepared to encounter body-horror creatures as you explore the cave. These creatures are tough to kill, so it’s best to bypass them and save your supplies if you’re playing solo.
- Take the lower passage when you come to a choice and follow the path that leads towards the water.
- You’ll encounter more mutants along the way, which you can choose to fight or sneak past. Keep going until you spot life jackets on the ground, which indicate that you’re headed in the right direction.
- Take a right turn when you get the chance, and you’ll enter a large chamber with a light source and a massive pool of water.
- Resist the temptation to jump into the water, as there’s a giant mutant shark that can maul you.
- Instead, pick your way around the side of the chamber until you find the Rebreather, which is located on a rock near the water.
Getting Out
The large mutant shark encountered earlier must be defeated before proceeding further. To exit the area, the only way out is to swim, but that requires eliminating the shark. If a firearm is available, it is recommended to use it to eliminate the shark. Otherwise, the shark must be defeated with spears, which requires considerable effort, and retrieving the spears can be done by crouching near the water and using the interact button as it passes by.
Once the shark has been defeated, enter the pool and swim downwards to locate the underwater passage. It is important to be cautious and stay on track as the tunnel twists around itself. After traversing the tunnel, the player will emerge a short distance away from the beach.
