The Chimera assault rifle just became available with the launch of season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A lot of players are looking to unlock this new gun even though it’s far from being one of the best assault riffles in the game. How can you unlock the Chimera?
There are two ways to unlock The Chimera, you will be able to unlock it through a challenge or you can take the easy route and purchase it from a store bundle. You can do one of two challenges, so take your pick:
- You can extract the weapon from DMZ Building 21 – This method is extremely hard to do.
- You can get 2 operator kills with assault rifles in 15 separate matches – This method is straightforward and is the one we would recommend going with.
The fastest way to achieve this is by loading into a game earn your two kills and backing out. Now boot up again and do the same thing. After the 15 matches you will have earned the weapon. This method will unlock the gun for both Modern Warfare 2 as well as Warzone 2. However, if you don’t own a copy of Modern Warfare 2 and you’re doing this in a battle royale match we wouldn’t advise backing out as it puts your teammates in a rough spot.
What’s the best loadout for The Chimera?
The best loadout will vary depending on which game you’re playing.
Best loadout in Warzone 2:
- Muzzle – Polarfire-S
- Barrel – 6.5″ EXF Vorpal
- Laser – VLK LZR 7MW
- Stock – Ravage-8
- Magazine – 45 Round Mag
The Chimera excels at close to medium range fights. In Warzone you will want to improve the range of the gun since you’re more likely to get into long range fights. That’s way it’s important to prioritise the Polarfire-S suppressor as well as the 6.5 EXP Vorpal barrel, these will significantly improve the guns range.
Both the VLK LZR 7MW laser and the Ravage-8 stock boosts handling with better aim down sight speed, aiming stability, and sprint to fire speed.
The 45 round mag will ensure you not to run out of bullets mid-fight increasing the time between reloads.

When dealing with multiplayer games you won’t have to prioritize long range like in Warzone 2. Instead, you will want attachments that prioritize handling and mobility. Therefore the 6.5 EXF OP-40 barrel and Bore-490 muzzle that increase aim down sight speed and improve recoil control. While the D37 Grip will help keep recoil in check and the weapon easier to handle.
