The Damage Guardian Shields and Collect Dropped Microchips challenge is part of the Oathbound quest. This is a story focused challenge that Fortnite Battle Royale brought to the new Chapter 4. The Guardian Shield was a new addition to Chapter 4 and allows you to block incoming damage to a certain point. It has a health meter and it will deactivate if it takes too much damage. How to Collect Microchips
First you will need to find a Guardian Shield. These can be found as floor loot or for increased chances in Oathbound Chests. Or, if you’re feeling ‘frisky’ you can try finding a player that has one.
Oathbound chest are large white chests that spawn at named locations with The Citadel, Shattered Slabs and Anvil Square being the key places to look for one.
Once you find one you will need to throw it down on the floor by pressing the left trigger and shoot it. By dealing damage to it you will notice it dropping small microchips items on the floor. If you get close to one you will see the option to pick it up.
You can also shoot another player’s deployed Guardian Shield and pick up the microchips this way. However, there’s always a chance you will lose the fight and not be able to pick them up.
