Hey there Hunters, have you been slaying and capturing a lot of monsters recently? I hope so, and I hope you are doing it effectively. If not, don’t worry, I will help you out! How? By giving you a guide on how to use Wirebugs, an unique feature available in Monster Hunter Rise. So, without further ado, let’s check it out!
But what the heck is a Wirebug? Well, a Wirebug is a bug (duh) with a strong silk, used by them to build nests. People in Kamura have been training them for ages, so they can be used as a way for better mobility.
So, are they able to fly on these things? No. I mean, kind of… People, including your character, use their silk ability for longer dashes, higher jumps and for dealing unique attacks on monsters. Yes, just like Spiderman, but somewhat limited.
1. How the Wirebug works
They work as a stamina-like system, having to wait for the cooldown to wear off before using its ability again. Depending on which Silk Ability you use, the consumption and the cooldown duration may change. But still, it lasts only for a few seconds, so don’t worry.
Bellow your screen, you can see the Wirebug Gauge, and there, you can notice having two Wirebugs by default.
You can have an additional one if you are able to find it at surrounding areas on the map. However, this third Wirebug stays in the gauge temporally, lasting only for 90 seconds. Well, at least, until you find another one, that is.
Use this extra resource and its limited time well, for having another stamina bar, you don’t have to worry on spending these skills a bit more, so have fun!
2. Wirebug’s special abilities
As mentioned before, this feature is very versatile, being useful for battles, by hunting your prey with special attacks, or just for better mobility, by repositioning yourself in the map at tough situations. Meaning, the Wirebug moves vary depending if your weapon is sheaved or with your weapon is drawn.
The main button you are going to use while doing those special moves is the ZL button (in Nintendo Switch), or the Middle Click button of the mouse (in PC). They are known as the Wirebug button. Combining them with other buttons, you can make a variety of cool combos.
With Sheaved Weapon:
The Wiredash
As the name suggests, we are talking about the dashes a character can make in video games. In Monster Hunter Rise is no different, but, these dashes can vary on being at the surface and at thin air.
- (ZL + X) or (Middle Click + Left Click): used on the ground. It will send you upwards in a diagonal way, just like a super jump. It is used to gain aerial advantage, by jumping higher and by dodging attacks.
- (ZL + A) or (Middle Click + Right Click): used on the ground. By pressing these buttons, you are able to make a long dash to where you were directing. It is used for fast positioning, to get closer to the hunt or to dodge/run away from them quickly.
- (ZL + ZR) or (Middle Click + MB4): this is the best method for dashes and the most used by players. While pressing these buttons, your character will fire the Wirebug on the direction of your reticule, granting you better precision and more movement freedom. It can be used while aiming both to the ground or to the air.
Note: Pressing the A or X buttons again during this quick period in the air, will grant you some more unique tricks, being:
- In air (ZL + X) or (Middle Click + Left Click): it gives you an additional horizontal dash, on the direction your Hunter was facing.
- In air (ZL + A) or (Middle Click + Right Click): it will send you diagonally towards the ground, also, on the direction your Hunter was facing.
To remember: The X button is for staying in the air and the A button is for staying on the ground.
The Hanging
Errr, that doesn’t sound very pleasing, but wait, wait! It is one of the most important Wirebug move you can make during your long, long Monster Hunter Rise gameplay.
- In air (A) or (Right Click): you are able to hang in the air for a moment.
Doing so, you are able to recover your Hunter’s stamina quickly, without any penalization. For example, while climbing a rock, if your stamina bar is going down, just use the Wirebug to help you. That way, you recover your character’s stamina and you won’t fall all over again, being able to continue climbing after jumping back there.
Be careful though, for the Wirebug loses charges while doing so, then again, you can’t stay like this for too long.
The Wall Running
This one is a useful and interesting move to make and, basically, yes, you are able to run up rocks and walls. It is also pretty simple to use, but remember to do it while running instead of walking, so you can go higher distances.
- While facing a wall (ZL + X/A) or (Middle Click + Left Click/Right Click): the Hunter will make a wall run, and, while doing so, you can direct them to where you want them to go, usually, upwards.
This move costs stamina from the character, so, don’t forget about the tip to recover your stamina while hanging in the air if necessary. Also, another way to do it, is by pressing the dodge button, making a backflip. While doing that, quickly take aim and fire your second Wirebug to dash to the destined area.
With Drawn Weapon:
Wirefall
This one is used in a very specific situation… when you get knocked over by a monster. It is used to avoid further attacks from your enemy, being an extremely useful skill.
- While being knocked over (ZL + B) or (Middle Click + Space): allows you to reposition better on the map and save yourself from further damage.
Silkbind
Lastly, but not least, the attack combos, yay! You can use the Wirebug to get closer to your hunts while doing a unique (and visually gorgeous) attack blow. However, they may vary depending on what type of weapon you are using (and the commands may change too), but basically, you can use them like this:
- (ZL + X/A) or (Middle Click + Left Click/ Right Click): For Melee Weapon’s Attack.
- (R + X/A) or (Shift + MB5/MB4): For Ranged Weapon’s Attack.
Phew, that’s all for today folks! I hope this article helped you, at least a little, and I wish you all a great hunting ahead!
